When completed in 1977, The New River Gorge Bridge, West Virginia, USA was the World’s Longest Single Arch Steel Span Bridge; now it’s the fourth longest. Standing 876 feet over The New River, it is also counted as the third highest bridge in the United States. In 2013, The National Park Service listed The New River Gorge Bridge in the National Register Of Historic Places.

Sandstone Falls: Around 40 miles before you reach the New River Gorge Bridge, just make a small stop at the Sandstone Visitor Center. Here is a fully accessible boardwalk that leads to the river-level views of the largest falls on the New River.
Long Point: A moderate trail will lead you to the Long Point – an ultimate view point that will show you the amazing breathtaking views of the Gorge River and the Bridge.
Fayetteville: The historic downtown Fayetteville is a unique little town full of history with excellent local dining and shopping opportunities.
Hawks Nest State Park: It’s around 10 miles drive from the Fayetteville; Believe me – it’s is one of the most scenic deep inside the forest and mountain drive!!! And, the views and overlooks here, will definitely blow your mind!
Canyon Rim: Here you will find some spectacular picturesque overlooks of the River and the Bridge. You need to walk a few steps down the mountain along the wooden boardwalk that leads to the scenic wonderful views.
THE BRIDGE DAY
On the third Saturday of every October, the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce hosts “Bridge Day” which is West Virginia’s largest one day festival; It is also the World’s largest extreme sports event. Every year on “Bridge Day” the bridge is open to a wide variety of events including the BASE (Building, Antenna, Span, and Earth) Jumpers leaping from the bridge, Rappelling, Food, Music and lots more.. You will see hundreds of BASE jumpers come to New River Gorge to parachute from the New River Gorge Bridge; This is one-of-a-kind family festival with over 180 vendors!!! So, if you are planning to visit the New River Gorge Bridge by October, make sure you don’t miss this festival; Moreover, you get to see the fall colors too!!!
